Recycling Batteries And The WEEE Directive
At MDS Battery we are committed as a Producer and a Distributor to help our customers recycle waste batteries and electrical items in accordance with The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (2006 No 3289) The WEEE Directive.
These regulations are designed to address the impact of hazardous substances in waste electrical and electronic equipment on the environment and human health and they require that each EU member state minimises the disposal of WEEE products as unsorted municipal waste and to achieve a high level of collection of WEEE products for treatment, recovery and sound disposal. Under the regulations all new electrical goods must be marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol (see right) to show that they were produced after 13th August 2005 and should be disposed of separately from normal household waste so that they can be recycled.
How do I recycle my waste batteries?
Please do not put waste batteries in your domestic waste bin, as they will not be recycled. MDS Battery Ltd offer a free disposal & recycling service to all customers by offering a new for old take-back scheme for all waste batteries. All you need to do is bring your waste batteries to us at the address below, send them to us using a carrier licenced to transport them (not Royal Mail), or you can find your nearest approved recycling facility by visiting www.recyclenow.co.uk
How do I recycle my waste electrical equipment?
If you’re buying a new electrical item from MDS, we will recycle your old one for free.
Why recycle?
Unwanted electrical equipment is the UK's fastest growing type of waste. Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health.
We can help
We are pleased to offer our customers the chance to recycle their old electrical items and this is done on a like-for-like basis. Therefore, if you purchase a new item from MDS then you can return an old item of the same or a similar type to us. You have 28 days in which to return the old item and if you don't bring it in person you are responsible for any postage and packaging costs incurred in returning it.
All waste products for recycling should be sent to:
