Do I have to fit an OEM UPS battery or can I use a compatible one?
Here are a few good reasons why you should choose an MDS battery kit for your UPS:
When it comes to replacing the batteries in a UPS, the manufacturer will try to tell you that you have to buy "their" battery otherwise it might not work properly. This is partly true- although what they actually mean is that you must fit a battery that has the right specification and not just one that looks like the one that is in your UPS already. What they also don't tell you is that they don't actually make the batteries that they fit into a UPS when it is assembled- even though many of them do their best to hide this by putting their sticker on the battery to hide it's true origin.
At MDS Battery Ltd we offer many fully or part assembled sets of batteries with installation guides so we can make sure you get the correct battery for your UPS and the battery replacement process is as easy as possible for you. We can even offer assistance with recycling your old batteries on request in case there are no local recycling facilities available in your area.
For some UPS models the manufacturer's replacement battery sets come complete in an expensive metal enclosure which make them very easy to replace but this adds a lot of unnecessary cost. In most cases we instead offer just the batteries on their own, with easy to follow installation instructions so that you can replace only the parts that you actually need at a fraction of the price.
MDS are the sole UK distributors for CSB battery Co. Ltd and we have chosen to use CSB batteries in most of our replacement UPS battery sets because they are not only one of the best batteries available but they are fitted as original equipment by many of the best known UPS manufacturers such as APC, MGE, Eaton, Powerware, Riello, Emerson, Chloride, Liebert, AEG, Hewlett Packard and Dell so you can be sure that you are not only getting a good quality battery but also in most cases it is approved by the UPS manufacturer as well.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the large numbers of similar looking but significantly inferior replacement batteries that are on the market today. These are usually offered at very attractive prices but you can be sure that even if the UPS works with them installed it would be unlikely to offer adequate power capacity, discharge capability or service life to give reliable backup to the equipment the UPS is protecting. In general budget replacement batteries are simply cheap in every sense of the word.
