Yuasa are one of the world’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of valve regulated lead-acid batteries with global manufacturing plants and an extensive marketing and distribution network throughout the UK and Europe.
Since the early part of the 20th Century Yuasa has been at the forefront of lead-acid battery technology, embracing new developments, applying research and investing in modern production plants to meet the challenges of a power hungry world.
Yuasa product ranges include an automotive battery division with and impresseive range of motorcycle batteries.
GS Yuasa claim 90% of the global OEM market for motorbike batteries.
One of the earliest was the Yuasa Yumicron range of batteries, similar to most traditional wet vented batteries used on earlier motorcycles, the Yumicron range offered a greater performance by using extremely high quality components and a unique seperator design.
YTX & YTZ series
Later came the Yuasa YTX series often known as Yuasa gel batteries.
The YTZ series has been available for a few years now and offers an extremely powerful start solution for motorbikes. The Initial CCA rating is considerably more than previous generations of batteries, and all of larger manufacturers such as Suzuki and Yamaha were quick to adopt this new YTZ technology. Even the relatively small Austrian KTM have used GS Yuasa YTZ10S-BS batteries for the last few years.
These modern batteries had a solid or semi-solid electrolyte and as such could be mounted on their sides. They also were less prone to vibration, and gave a significant boost to the starting power, (Cold Cranking Amps, or CCA)
Probably one of the most well known brands in lead acid batteries, Yuasa's general purpose NP batteries, such as the ever popular NP7-12, replacing the older discontinued NP6-12, and the larger terminal NP7-12L battery. These batteries along with the Yuasa NP2.1-12 NP2.3-12 became extremely popular in the security alarm and emergency lighting markets.
However Enersys have now entered the UK market with its' own version of the NP battery aimed directly at the Yuasa marketplace!
