Dell Company History
Dell at one time was the largest retailer of PCs and Servers, but in 2008 it holds the second spot behind Hewlett-Packard. The company was founded by Michael Dell in 1984 while he was a student at the University of Texas in Austin. Michael subsequently dropped out of university when he was given $300,000 in growth capital from his family. Today they're a large company who emply over 88,000 people worldwide.
In 1985 Dell started building computers from their own designs and the first PC in this range used an Intel 8088 processor running at 8MHz and in this year they grossed a very healthy $73m.
As company grew so, did their product range. Not only do they now sell PC's but also laptops, servers, network swithces, peripherals but have recently started to manufacturer televisions.
